There is a Maori creation myth in which the gods gave to humans three baskets containing the knowledge they needed to live on Earth. They hold the knowledge of the natural world Kete Arounui (bamboo basket), spiritual world Kete Tuaatea (polycarbonate basket) and our rational world Kete Tuauri (aluminium basket). The knowledge needs to be in balance for us to live harmoniously on Earth. The light source is an energy efficient and long lasting LED spot light.

Thread Light Floor Lamps by Coco Reynolds : Australian Designer

Australian designer Coco Reynolds has created the Thread light.

It is simple in construction and can be quickly and easily assembled on site by the end user and adapted to work in any space. An additional threaded sleeve cast into the concrete base caters for two lengths of threaded rod that can be screwed in to suit. ‘Thread’ can be manufactured very economically using minimal materials quickly and efficiently. In addition to this, the light shade is made of recycled spun aluminium and the concrete base is made up of a concrete composite called Lithistone which is made up of a combination of ground minerals, recyclable and organic mineral pigments.

UP is a large floor lamp for both indoors and outdoors (version IP44), completely made of polyethylene by rotational moulding technologies. The geometric rigour of forms is made softer and elegant by a subtle embossed decoration that runs in irregular spirals across the entire lamp.

In MARTA train stations across Atlanta, residents are coming across surprising Corian® sculptures during their workday commutes. The exhibition, titled “Light Up Atlanta,” showcases the works of several of Atlanta’s best designers. Commissioned by C.H. Briggs, a local building products distributor, Light Up Atlanta features eye-catching designs ranging from a glowing interpretation of a heart to an inventive bench to a southern heat-inspired melting fan. Each piece is made with DuPont™ Corian® and is backlit to emit a soft glow.
