• K3 House by Bruce Stafford Architects

This dramatic renovation centres around a spacious internal courtyard defined by natural rock face and lush vegetation. Large sliding glass doors in the main living area enable a seamless flow between inside and outside. The living areas also have the added benefit of glazing on the north façade which opens up the house to the view. The master suite pavilion, perched on the highest portion of the rock face, has been designed as a sanctuary for the parents, whilst maintaining a bird’s eye view over the living areas.

  • The Fourth Wall by François Bauchet, Eric Jourdan and N°111

Initiated by N°111 with François Bauchet and Eric Jourdan, the Quatrième Mur was one of the off exhibitions which spearheaded the event during the St Etienne Design Biennial 2010. In a former cinema and with this mysterious title, three ex- Saint Etienne students invited two of their ex-lecturers for a collective exhibition in the shape of tribute-thanks-transmission with a result which lecturers and pupils alike can be proud of. The installation comprised everyday objects which, through their design and varying scales, gave rhythm and composition to the scenic space. The objective was to encourage the spectator to observe the objects from our domestic environment from a different angle and to reconsider the relationship between objects. “The fourth wall evokes an intellectual wall separating the actor on the stage and the spectator in the room. The installation of the objects on a stage puts distance between them and the spectator. The goal of the distance is to lead the spectator to consider what is taking place on the stage with an investigative and critical eye. To distance, is to transform the thing that it is to be understood, to which attention is to be drawn, from something banal, known and immediately fixed, into something distinctive, unusual and unexpected. ” N°111 .

  • The Enclave Interior by Jamie Herzlinger

The clients are world travelers and after a brief period of time living in Milan, they understandably fell in love with the work of Carlos Scarpa! Interpreting his work in combination with the client’s lifestyle made this project very exciting and unique. The house had to be completely gutted, and it was only then that the soaring ceiling heights were discovered. Within the box of space that previously evaporated the entrance, dining room, hallways, and living room, we were able to make each of those public areas very dramatic by the controlled use of the bead blasted steel and poured terrazzo floors that had zinc screeds inlayed for a distinct separation. In the entry, the angled cabinet is a beautiful dining room buffet, fabricated in Makassar ebony and supported within two bead blasted steel columns. It is cantilevered in order to create a visual separation from the entrance, but at the same time contributing to the architectural details. The original master bathroom was combined with a walk in guest closet to create a larger space, as the programming required that the couple preferred to use the bath area together, thereby necessitating a larger space. Visual fluidity and an informal atmosphere were the driving and guiding principles in the complete renovation of this project. .

  • Streetwalk by Charlie Davidson

A commission won through an open call for artists from Sunniside Partnership, the acting body in charge of revitalising the Sunniside area of Sunderland. Charlie Davidsons original proposal was for a series of benches that had the appearance of walking. This idea was a direct response to the brief which asked designers to draw pedestrians into the east side of town and the newly furbished Sunniside gardens from Sunderland city centre. The original designs were too big for the finalized street layout so the designs were developed into a stool module. The final design is cast in a polymer based cement with coloured quartz and marble aggregate.

With an appearance of simplicity and sculptural influences, continuous lines develop planes into three-dimensional artifacts. A boundless Collection of Furniture that includes Surface Lounge Table and Surface Cabinet as a continuation of the Cut tables.

The form conceptually derives from a square plane surface; folded by a soft curved division, resulting in a development of concave and convex shapes connecting the front and the left side of the cabinet; provoking a living bulging shape in a harmonic wave.

The cabinet is dressed by Oak Veneer

The double-curved shape incorporates the ergonomic demands and generates at the same time the necessary stiffness and stability of the chair. Due to the individual weight of the user TriWing adapts slightly in shape and absorbs the impact of the actual forces. The chair aims at a playful use and is produced in a digital workflow from design to production. Furthermore TriWing generates a perception that is associated with handmade products due to its wooden materiality and tactile impression.

TriWing integrates four different sitting postures in one continuous shape. By flipping the chair along the longitudinal axis the furniture changes its posture and appearance and unfolds its multiple applications. TriWing can be used as dining-chair, lounge-chair, reading-chair or deck-chair. The seat height of the various positions is related to the particular use.

The wooden layer is made of lamellas of various veneers, fi xed to a textile base material. The combination of materials shows the wood in a new, surprising light, as it can be moved similarly to a piece of fabric. The cabinet is playfully opened by folding it.

Press Release:

To celebrate the 70th edition of Pitti Uomo (the most important men’s fashion event worldwide held in Florence 11/14 January), Marzorati Ronchetti has entrusted Sybarite with the task of creating a design concept which can furnish an area by combining aesthetics and multi-functionality. The result is a module which sits on the borderline between business, leisure, entertainment, and hospitality. All of this is expressed in an organic and free-flowing form with great technological potential.

The project came into being in order to furnish the Buyers’ Club, a room used by members of the National Chamber of Buyers which this year is working with Fashion Illustrated to organise meetings and roundtables.

The concept: starting from the necessity to furnish an area of relatively small size, while equipping it with a series of seating options which are functional and welcoming at the same time, a sculptured arc was designed surrounded by some satellite bodies and decorative elements.

The central structure manages not only to maximise the space available, but also acts dynamically by stimulating people to get close to each other and thus encourage interaction and conversation.

It is called Archetto and is conceived as an independent module which can furnish a multi-functional environment. In fact by means of a few simple decorative elements a coherent environmental identity is created.

The arc gradually expands until it becomes a kind of wrap-around backrest, to allow privacy but without creating a real barrier.

Designed to be an autonomous island, equipped with sockets to recharge mobile phones and computers, Archetto is simultaneously open and closed, a visible and a private place.

So it is a very versatile concept which can be tailored by the inclusion of loudspeakers and a wireless connection, to meet all needs in a single space.

These technical features, when combined with the enticing look and design, make Archetto suitable for bars, restaurants, public areas in hotels and also places of entertainment.

It can be tailored in terms of colour and also in terms of its technology, and so Archetto is a single solution to a very wide range of needs.

On the walls of the room, white metal panels amplify the depth of the area and are decorated simply with a series of magnetic hangers: black swallow tails which highlight the relationship between depth and surface.

A work desk, chairs and low tables complete the room’s furnishings, distinguished by the simplicity of the lines and the contrast between black and white.

Technical features:
Archetto is made of high density polystyrene covered in fibreglass and shaped by a CAD-CAM project, with a gloss paint finish. This technology makes the structure very light and, being divisible in 5 modules, it is easy to assemble and transport. A series of sockets is housed in the metal base of the structure.

Sybarite

Sybarite is a young architectural practice based in London which is distinguished by its ability to combine the use of modern technologies with a vision of form inspired by natural elements, by organic and free-flowing silhouettes. A very original style which in just a few years has enabled the practice to establish itself with projects realised worldwide for leading names in fashion.

Marzorati Ronchetti

Created in Cantù in 1922, Marzorati Ronchetti is now a leading company in the working of metals and specialises in stainless steel for works in the field of design, art, furnishings and architecture. The continuous search for new technologies, together with a well-established tradition of craftsmanship, has made the company an ambassador for Italian design abroad.

Proof of this comes from the joint projects with internationally famous architects and designers, such as Ron Arad, Antonio Citterio, Italo Rota, Mario Bellini, Peter Marino, Pierluigi Cerri, Norman Forster, Adam Tihany and many others.

Alongside its historic location in Cantù, Marzorati Ronchetti has opened offices in Milan, London, Düsseldorf, New York and, most recently, Dubai.
