Furniture _ Smart Ideas Mosaiik Lounge Chair by Annika Göransson - Swedish design |
Annika Göransson is a Swedish design student living in Copenhagen. She takes her Bachelor degree in Furniture- and Industrial design at the Danish Design School this summer. Annika strives to create products that raise curiosity and experimenting with structures is an important part of her work.
Annika´s latest piece is called Mosaiik and is a lounge chair where a metal grid makes up the construction of the shell. The grid also serves as a framework for the upholstering. Inspired by the structure of corncobs and sunflower buds the upholstery is made out of 297 foam cubes. The cubes are spread and packed with the curving of the seat.
By pressing the cubes through a wool fabric a smooth surface is created on top while a rough structure forms in the back. By leaving the back uncovered, the user can experience the different structures created by the upholstering technique and also gain an understanding of how the seat is constructed.
The simple silhuette of Mosaiik is complemented by a pattern that emphasize the square element of the furniture. The final result is a lounge chair created by a mosaic of soft cubes.
